okay, tumblr, here’s the thing:

If any of you read the news, you are presumably aware of the fact that the NRA has such a strong lobby that it nearly stopped all gun legislation in its tracks, even with Newtown still lingering fresh on at least some people’s minds. The Senate only just announced, today, that it has finally come up with a bipartisan bill, because the conservatives have been so goddamned stubborn that they are ignoring the best interests of their own constituents.

If you read the news, you are perhaps also aware of the suggestion by some Republican leaders that the solution to gun violence in schools is to … equip teachers with guns.

Loaded ones. Around children, obviously, because how else could you access them quickly in an emergency? Yes, brilliant plan, can’t think how that might possibly go wrong in a busy classroom full of impulsive young people. Not to mention the fact that it’s another erosion of the teacher’s position as an educator, first and foremost.

Look: four months is an extremely long time in a country that has the collective public attention span of a gnat, particularly when 50% of its citizens barely even realize that their elected representatives aren’t doing their jobs.

If you were already raging at Glee tonight for “capitalizing on recent events,” then chances are — and I’m paraphrasing Jack Sparrow as ironically as possible — that this shot was not meant for you.

And if you’re that enraged, then actually be productive about it — read up on the proposed bill, call your fucking Congressmen, and tell them to get off their asses and vote.
